Sightseeing

Today was a sightseeing day. Jorge drove us around, and was an excellent tour guide. He was able to keep the kids happy and engaged the whole day!

First stop was to take the funicular up to the top of the mountain Monserrate. Mayra held a little boy in the train so he could see out the window as we went up the steep incline.

At the top we hiked up further, to over 10,300' MSL

The view from the church at the top was outstanding

Then we went back down to visit the old city, called La Candelaria. Narrow streets as the area was built in the 1500's.

The girls posed with a guard at the Presidential Palace

And we ate lunch. The kids had tamales.

After lunch we walked to a museum of ancient Colombian artifacts. Jorge was an excellent tour guide, keeping the kids interested throughout.

Then on to a central square where the kids fed the pigeons.

We had dessert at a little café, then back in the van for the ride home. It appears that the girls were a bit tired.

An outstanding day!

  2. Greetings from the Jones Family! Tom, Linda, Ingrid, and Jhony. Your blog is bringing back many fond memories of Bogota. We climbed Mt. Monserrate and had a great experience having treats from local venders. View fantastic from the top. The walk down was harder on the knees. La Candalaria was beautiful. I enjoyed the architecture and the hamster races. Please tell Jorge hi if you see him again. He guided us on many fine trips and I enjoyed our conversations.
